Differences Between Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

In recent years, great changes have been taking place all over the world. The decrease in fossil fuel reserves, especially oil, has naturally seriously affected the automotive industry. The decrease in reserves has led to the search for an energy source that can replace gasoline and diesel. For this reason, instead of cars running on fossil fuels, there are now electric cars and hybrid cars with both electric and gasoline powered engines.

Electric cars have a single engine, unlike hybrid cars. They have only an electric motor and require 60 V of energy to move. The battery, in which electrical energy is stored, should be charged as the energy level decreases. Electric vehicles work silently and with the latest technologies, the charging times of these vehicles have decreased to shorter times compared to their first periods.

Electric vehicles work thanks to electricity converted into motion energy. There are different types of electric vehicles, but two types are the most used. The first of these is battery electric vehicles. These vehicles, which have an induction motor with a battery, move by converting the electricity provided by the battery into motion energy by the induction motor. Tesla Motor vehicles have this system. The other type of electric vehicle is “Fuel Cell” technology. This electric car model, which is a product of hydrogen fuel cell technology, is the work of the Far East. It has a tank filled with hydrogen, and it moves thanks to the reaction of the hydrogen in the tank.

Hybrid literally means "hybrid". Hybrid cars that operate with two engines have both an electric motor and a gasoline-powered engine. It shows similarities with the combustion gasoline vehicles that smoke systemically. The electric motor in the vehicle activates at the first start, during stop-start moments in traffic and when cruising at low speed. Thus, gasoline consumption is significantly reduced and fuel is saved. In addition, the electric motor is activated so that there is no disruption in gear shifts.

In hybrid cars with two different engines, both gasoline and electric motors function when high performance is required. This prevents the vehicle from losing performance. While the vehicle is moving at low and constant speed, the gasoline and electric motor are activated alternately. When the electrical energy in the battery is low, the gasoline-powered engine starts to work automatically. Meanwhile, the electric motor charges itself without the need for a charging station. This process is generally applied when braking. At the end of each brake, the car is slowed down and the hybrid battery is charged. Since it has a lower capacity gasoline engine compared to internal combustion vehicles, fuel is saved.

Differences Between Hybrid and Electric Vehicles;

-The main difference between the two vehicles is the engine types. Hybrids have both an electric motor and a petrol engine. Electric vehicles do not have a gasoline-powered engine and electric vehicles do not consume any fuel.

-Electric vehicles must be plugged in and charged in order to be charged. In hybrid vehicles, on the other hand, the electric battery can charge itself thanks to the slowing down of the vehicle with the brake and the effect of the acceleration while driving. It is possible to charge independently from the mains.

-The batteries of hybrid vehicles are larger than the batteries of electric vehicles.

-The market for electric vehicles is more expensive. However, due to the fact that the gasoline cost is zero and the electricity is cheaper, it starts to provide an economic advantage in a short time.

-Technologically, hybrid vehicles have a more complex structure. The reason for this is that there is only one type of engine in electric vehicles. In addition, the service and maintenance fees of electric vehicles are lower than hybrid vehicles.

-Electric vehicles have a longer range on a single charge than hybrid vehicles, which makes electric vehicles more useful.

- It takes an average of 8 hours to charge electrical appliances at home sockets. Hybrid vehicles do not need this.

-Electric vehicles cause less harm to the environment than hybrid vehicles. We can even say that it has zero emission value. Because electric vehicles do not have a gasoline-powered engine like hybrid vehicles.

-Hybrid vehicles have less risk of staying on the road. The reason is the availability of gasoline engine support. The first thing to consider in electric vehicles is that the vehicle does not run out of charge. If electric vehicles run out of charge completely, you will be stuck on the road and this is the biggest problem.
